A basic Choice Band set. With 80 base Attack and 90 Speed, you have the potential to do quite a bit of damage in UU. Return and Double-Edge are both to take advantage of STAB. The Dark and Ghost moves are primarily for hitting Ghost-type Pokemon, but Pursuit has the added bonus of hitting anything that would run from Vigoroth. Sucker Punch is useful to get the jump on faster Pokemon. Earthquake is for damaging Rock and Steel Pokemon such as Aggron and Metagross; you can OHKO the former due to its 4x weakness to Ground moves. Finally, Focus Punch will do a respectable amount of damage to Bronzong and Skarmory, but more importantly, can OHKO Tyranitar. Fire Punch is good to hit Bronzong and Skarmory as hard as Focus Punch does, except you can spam it at them without fear of being interrupted, and it has better coverage against most other switch-ins on Vigoroth. Ice Punch is super effective on Gliscor and Cradily, who will generally not mind switching into any of your other moves, and will do more damage to Dragon / Ground and Dragon / Flying Pokemon such as Salamence, and Altaria than a STAB Return would. In UU, Cradily is about the only Pokemon you'll be using Ice Punch on, so you're probably better off just Focus Punching that as it comes in for twice the damage.

A fast Bulk Up set, designed to take enough hits that aren't boosted by Choice Band or Choice Specs in UU to get at least two Bulk Ups and attempt a sweep. The given EVs give it 336 HP for maximum Leftovers recovery. There really is no reason to not use max Speed EVs and Jolly on this; Granbull is generally better at being a slower, move defensive Bulk Up user, due to Intimidate and a higher Attack stat.

What really makes Vigoroth unique is that it is one of only four Pokemon that learns both Flail and Reversal; the others being Heracross, Smeargle, and Vigoroth's evolved form, Slaking. The concept behind this is simple: Endure an attack that should KO you, and once Salac Berry activates, Flail away at anything that you hit neutral with Normal, and use Reversal on Pokemon weak to it and Night Slash for those Ghosts. Substitute can also be used to bring Vigoroth down to 1 HP if you are afraid of status ruining your strategy (and it will), however Vigoroth should be less worried about that than other Pokemon that can use this strategy due to the Sleep immunity its ability gives it. Make sure that your HP is not divisible by four if going with Substitute, so that you can Substitute down to exactly 1 HP.

    Other Options

Choice Scarf can work on Vigoroth as an alternative to Choice Band; however, you will be able to hit even less hard than normal. It is notable that he can outspeed Choice Scarf Heracross and OHKO it with Aerial Ace should you choose to use Vigoroth in OU.

Counter can work on Vigoroth due to its acceptable HP; Vigoroth will generally survive most unboosted attacks and KO the attacker back easily. You could also try using it in conjunction with Focus Sash to take on pretty much any physical attacker and KO them. It could even be used on a Flail / Reversal set instead of Endure, but you are sacrificing the Speed boost from Salac Berry this way.

Vigoroth has access to Thunder Punch, but outside of hitting Gyarados it has little utility.

Taunt could work on a Bulk Up set to prevent someone from using Roar or Whirlwind to stop your stat-upping; it could also be used in conjunction with the above mentioned Counter to force an opponent to attack, then Counter them back for a KO. Slack Off could also work on a Bulk Up set, but forces Vigoroth to lose either Night Slash, after which it can't hit Rotom and Drifblim, or Earthquake, after which it can't hit the Rock / Steels.

A set combining Substitute and Focus Punch is possible, but there are other UU Pokemon that are better at this due to having higher HP or defenses, leading to a more durable Substitute.

    EVs

On most sets, even the Bulk Up set, 252 Attack and Speed EVs are fine, although the EVs given for that particular set are preferred. The Flail / Reversal set should always be Adamant, unless you are afraid of fast Choice Scarf Pokemon, and there is no real advantage to not using Jolly on the Bulk Up set. The Choice Band set can be either nature, however.

    Opinion

Vigoroth is distinct from its evolution, Slaking, because it has Vital Spirit instead of Truant. Vigoroth also has decent Attack, HP, and Defense, and great Speed, making it a good choice for the UU metagame. It suffers from being outshined in Choice Banding by Kangaskhan, but the Flail + Reversal set can be devastating.

    Counters

Generally speaking, Sandstorm, Hail, and first-priority moves such as Quick Attack shut down Flail / Reversal sets. Any Vigoroth who opts for Fire Punch over Focus Punch will be in deep water when Cloyster comes out to play. With monstrous Defense on par with Aggron's (and no nasty Ground weakness) coupled with the ability to hit on Vigoroth's poor base 55 Special Defense, Cloyster really annoys Vigoroth. Armaldo resists or is neutral to all of Vigoroth's main attacks, has solid defenses, and strikes hard with 125 Attack. Bulky Waters in general can be a pain, as Vigoroth can't score a super effective hit on them. Poliwrath can switch in on any Dark attack and be immediately threatening with Focus Punch or Brick Break. Dusknoir does not take that much damage from even boosted Ghost or Dark moves either, and can burn Vigoroth, which ruins every possible set.
