Using a Choice Scarf on such a fast Pokémon may seem strange, but Shaymin-S can be both a great revenge killer and a decent lead with it.

Seed Flare is standard fare as the primary STAB for Shaymin-S. To provide a secondary STAB attack, Air Slash has a 60% flinch rate (57% when taking accuracy into account), thanks to Serene Grace. This can get Shaymin-S out of tough situations. For example, if Shaymin-S is up against a Choice Scarf Palkia with 79% of its health left. Seed Flare will not OHKO it, but Air Slash can 2HKO Palkia when it is at this health; thus, Palkia will be either forced to switch out or die if Air Slash flinches it. Air Slash also hits a majority of the Uber metagame for neutral damage, the only significant Pokémon who resist it are Dialga, Metagross, and Tyranitar. The main purpose of Earth Power is to slam Dialga and Metagross switch-ins, with most Metagross being 2HKOed, while most offensive Dialga are 2HKOed (be warned, though, specially defensive Dialga will live through two Earth Powers, and will still often live even after a Special Defense drop). Finally, Hidden Power Ice allows Shaymin-S to revenge kill Garchomp, opposing Shaymin-S, and Dragon Dance Rayquaza (as long as it lacks ExtremeSpeed).

Like most Grass-types, Shaymin-S is able to make use of the Leech Seed+Substitute combination. What makes Shaymin-S special is that, not only is it the fastest Leech Seed user in the game (barring Jumpluff in the sun and Ludicolo in the rain), it is also one of the few viable users of Leech Seed in Ubers who does not require a specific type of weather. Shaymin-S also has a base 120 Special Attack stat, and can thus also be an offensive threat while stalling with Substitute + Leech Seed. Shaymin-S’s Speed and power makes it an excellent user of Leech Seed and Substitute.

The main idea of this set is to switch into Pokémon who Shaymin-S can scare out, set up a Substitute as they switch, and then either attack the next switch-in or use Leech Seed. Using Pokémon who attract Groudon’s Earthquakes (such as Dialga, Metagross, Jirachi, Heatran, etc.) is highly recommended, as this can give Shaymin-S a free switch in, and will often let Shaymin-S set up a Substitute, due to Groudon switching out. These Pokémon who are weak to Ground-type attacks will also often attract Garchomp, who is usually Choiced, thus usually giving Shaymin-S the free time to use Substitute, if Garchomp uses Earthquake. Leech Seed will allow Shaymin-S to take advantage of common switch-ins, such as Blissey and Giratina, as Shaymin-S will be restoring huge amounts of health per turn. In fact, Blissey will almost always lose to Shaymin-S if it has been Leech Seeded, due to Shaymin-S recovering more health from Leech Seed and Leftovers than losing health from Substitute!

Seed Flare works extremely well on this set for a couple of reasons. Seed Flare has the potential to cause a lot of switches, due to its high chance of halving the opponent's Special Defense, forcing the opponent's Pokémon to take more damage from entry hazards and Leech Seed. The last move is best chosen to fit your team, as each move has a significant advantage. Air Slash is generally the best choice, as, in addition to being a STAB attack, it works extremely well with Substitute and Leech Seed. If Air Slash flinches, not only does the opponent lose a turn to move, but they will also take Leech Seed damage. Air Slashing a Leech Seeded Pokémon can quickly wear them down, and, once again, cause more switches. Air Slash is also super effective on two other Leech Seeder seen in Ubers: Jumpluff and Ludicolo. However, Air Slash can leave Shaymin-S open to threats, such as Bulk Up Dialga and Scizor, thus this is where the other moves become viable. Hidden Power Fire allows Shaymin-S to OHKO Scizor in the sun, which is significant because Scizor is a huge problem for this set due to Bullet Punch breaking Shaymin-S's Substitute and U-turn allowing Scizor to break Shaymin-S's Substitute while switch-out, thus avoiding Leech Seed. Hidden Power Fire will also 2HKO Skarmory (or if Seed Flare lowers Skarmory's Special Defense, OHKO) and Metagross in the sun, both of whom are also significant problems for this set. When using Hidden Power Fire, make sure you use Groudon, as the sun is required for the KOs on every one of these Pokémon, with the exception of Scizor, and Kyogre's rain will ruin Hidden Power Fire's effectiveness. Earth Power’s main purpose is to 3HKO the standard Bulk Up Dialga, who will otherwise have the potential to out stall Shaymin-S with Rest, and set up a sweep with Bulk Up. Earth Power also has the capability of 2HKOing Metagross and offensive Dialga. Earth Power has a 20% chance of lowering the opponents Special Defense, thanks to Serene Grace, which can work well with this set’s theme of causing switches. Finally, Hidden Power Ice is an option for the last slot. Hidden Power Ice’s main job is to OHKO Rayquaza, who may attempt to set up on Shaymin-S, expecting it to be carrying either Hidden Power Fire or Earth Power. Hidden Power Ice will OHKO both Garchomp and opposing Shaymin-S.

With a blazing 127 base Speed stat, a great 120 base Special Attack stat, and Life Orb, Shaymin-S has the capability to be a potent threat in the Uber metagame. To fully take advantage of Life Orb, Shaymin-S should use an HP IV of 29, as this allows Shaymin-S to take 11 hits of Life Orb’s recoil instead of 10.

Seed Flare is the defining move of this set, as the combination of Life Orb's power boost, Seed Flare's potential to half the opponent's Special Defense, and the ability to freely switch between moves to take advantage of these Special Defense drops makes this set a deadly offensive force. Life Orb's power boost allows Shaymin-S to gain several KOs that it is not normally able to obtain. For example, Seed Flare will always OHKO both Darkrai and max HP Kyogre after Stealth Rock damage. 4 HP Kyogre will always be OHKOed by Seed Flare, even without the support of Stealth Rock. Offensive Mewtwo will take 74%-88% from Seed Flare, which is a 92% chance to OHKO Mewtwo if it switches into both Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes. Groudon will almost always be OHKOed by Seed Flare, regardless of the EV spread it uses, with only an extremely specially defensive Groudon having a chance of surviving. Both Palkia and Garchomp will also suffer a 2HKO from Seed Flare.

Air Slash, in addition to providing a secondary STAB attack, will also greatly aid Shaymin-S , due to its flinch rate. For example, Air Slash will put Palkia into the KO range of Seed Flare, meaning that Palkia must switch or rely on Seed Flare to miss, if it is flinched by Air Slash. Air Slash will also OHKO opposing Shaymin-S, 2HKO Darkrai, and 2HKO both Rayquaza and Garchomp after they take damage from Stealth Rock. Scizor, a Pokémon who often gives Shaymin-S problems, will almost always be 2HKOed by Air Slash after it takes damage from Stealth Rock (unless it is an extremely specially defensive Scizor). Seed Flare's potential to half the opponent's Special Defense will make Air Slash even more useful. Both Rayquaza and Garchomp will be destroyed by Air Slash if Seed Flare halves their Special Defense. Scizor will also often fall to Air Slash if its Special Defense has been halved, as long as Stealth Rock is out. Lugia, Latias, Giratina, and Giratina-O will be 2HKOed by Air Slash if Seed Flare halves their Special Defense (though staying in on Lugia and Latias should only be done in emergencies, as they can KO Shaymin-S if Air Slash does not flinch). After a Special Defense drop from Seed Flare, Shaymin-S will also have a small chance of 2HKOing Skarmory with Air Slash (provided that Skarmory took damage from Stealth Rock). Earth Power's main objective is to land super effective hits on Metagross and Dialga, both of whom will be 2HKOed (with the exception of an extremely specially defensive Dialga).

The last moveslot is best occupied by either Hidden Power Ice, Hidden Power Fire, or Growth. The biggest selling point of Hidden Power Ice is that if Lugia's Special Defense is halved by Seed Flare as it switches into Shaymin-S, the combination of Seed Flare's damage, Stealth Rock, and Hidden Power Ice will destroy Lugia. Hidden Power Ice will always 2HKO Giratina, Giratina-O, and Latias if Seed Flare halves their Special Defense, and it will always OHKO Garchomp, Rayquaza, and opposing Shaymin-S, regardless of the damage they have taken beforehand. Hidden Power Fire will easily OHKO Scizor in the sun, and will also 2HKO Skarmory. Growth is an interesting choice, as the Special Attack boost it provides will net Shaymin-S several KOs that it would otherwise miss. For example, after one use of Growth, Garchomp will always be OHKOed by Seed Flare, while Palkia will always be OHKOed by Seed Flare after taking damage from Stealth Rock. Offensive Dialga will always be OHKOed by a +1 Earth Power, Max HP Dialga will have a 66% chance of being OHKOed by a +1 Earth Power after taking damage from Stealth Rock, and specially defensive Dialga will always be 2HKOed by a +1 Earth Power. Rayquaza will have a 53% chance of being 2HKOed by a boosted Air Slash after Stealth Rock, and will be KOed by its own Life Orb recoil if Air Slash does not KO. When using Growth, Leftovers becomes a viable option as an item, as it will let Shaymin-S survive in battle for a longer period of time while still having more power than the standard Life Orb Shaymin-S (at the cost of one turn of set up).

When equipped with Choice Specs, Shaymin-S is able to achieve a great amount of power without the need to set up or the constant recoil of Life Orb.

Seed Flare will deal a massive amount of damage to any Pokémon who does not resist it (with the exception of Blissey). For example, Groudon, Darkrai, and max HP Kyogre are demolished by Seed Flare, regardless of whether or not Stealth Rock is on the field. Offensive Mewtwo takes such a massive amount of damage from Seed Flare that there is an 87% chance of Mewtwo being OHKOed by Seed Flare after Stealth Rock, meaning that Mewtwo cannot switch into Shaymin-S to stop it. Garchomp will also have a 66% chance of being OHKOed by Seed Flare, after taking Stealth Rock damage. Although Timid is usually the best nature on Choice Specs Shaymin-S (due to the ability to outspeed Timid Darkrai), Modest is certainly a reasonable option for one big reason; it can let Shaymin-S have a 58% chance of 2HKOing Blissey with Seed Flare if the first Seed Flare gets a Special Defense drop. If you manage to get both Stealth Rock and two layers of Spikes up, a 4 HP / 252 SpD Calm Blissey will always be destroyed by two Seed Flares after a Special Defense drop occurs. Modest Shaymin-S will also have a 53% chance of OHKOing Palkia with Seed Flare after Stealth Rock (with Spikes and Stealth Rock, Palkia will always be OHKOed), while both Garchomp and Mewtwo will always be OHKOed by Seed Flare, after taking damage from Stealth Rock. Thus, when choosing Choice Specs Shaymin-S’s nature, you must take into account whether Modest’s extra power or Timid’s ability to outspeed Darkrai is more useful for your team. Something to note is that, with Choice Specs, even Rayquaza will have a hard time setting up on Shaymin-S if Seed Flare halves Rayquaza's Special Defense. Seed Flare will do such a large amount of damage the next turn that, when combined with the damage from the previous Seed Flare and Stealth Rock, Rayquaza will often die to two uses of Life Orb. With a Modest nature, Choice Specs Shaymin-S will even have a chance of 2HKOing Rayquaza with Seed Flare after Stealth Rock if the first hit gets a Special Defense drop!

Air Slash will also greatly benefit from the power boost from Choice Specs. For example, even a 252 HP / 168 SpD Scizor with a Careful nature (usually the most defensive Scizor found in Ubers) will almost always be 2HKOed by Air Slash after taking Stealth Rock damage. Palkia will also always be 2HKOed by Air Slash after Stealth Rock damage. Darkrai, Garchomp, and Rayquaza will always be 2HKOed by Air Slash as well. Earth Power's main purpose is to once again destroy Dialga, Metagross, and Jirachi, all of whom are always 2HKOed after taking damage from Stealth Rock (which is mainly for specially defensive Dialga with Leftovers), regardless of the EV spread or nature they use. The final moveslot is between Hidden Power Ice and Hidden Power Fire. The main selling point of Hidden Power Ice is that when used with Modest Choice Specs Shaymin-S, it will have a 93% chance of 2HKOing a Lugia with Leftovers after it takes damage from Stealth Rock. When using Hidden Power Ice with Timid Choice Specs Shaymin-S, it can provide a quick OHKO on both Garchomp and Rayquaza when needed, and have a 90% chance of 2HKOing a 86 HP / 96 SpD Giratina-O after it takes Stealth Rock damage. Hidden Power Fire will easily OHKO Scizor in the sunlight (and still 2HKO Scizor in the rain), and will also always OHKO specially defensive Skarmory after Stealth Rock damage in sunny weather.

    Opzioni Team

Like most offensive Pokémon, Shaymin-S will greatly appreciate the support of Stealth Rock, as it gives Shaymin-S several vital KOs. Shaymin-S itself has serious problems with its weakness to Stealth Rock, which shortens the life of this already frail Pokémon. Because of this, Forretress makes a great teammate for Shaymin-S due to its ability to use Rapid Spin. With Stealth Rock being eliminated from the battlefield, Shaymin-S’s life will be greatly extended. Forretress also has a resistance to Ice-type attacks, which is a huge help for Shaymin-S, due to its own 4x weakness to Ice-type moves.

Blissey will be a problem for every single Shaymin-S variant with the exception of the Substitute + Leech Seed set and a Modest Choice Specs Shaymin-S. Blissey’s massive Special Defense and HP allows her to take Shaymin-S’s assaults, and either cripple Shaymin-S with either Toxic or Thunder Wave, or simply OHKO Shaymin-S with Ice Beam after it has taken Stealth Rock damage. If Shaymin-S lacks Hidden Power Fire, a specially defensive Skarmory will give it serious problems. Skarmory can use its 4x resistance to Seed Flare, resistance to Air Slash, and immunity to Earth Power to either use Whirlwind to force Shaymin-S to switch (which means taking more damage from Stealth Rock), or can use Brave Bird to OHKO Shaymin-S after it takes Stealth Rock damage. Although both Latias and Lugia are at risk of being flinched to death if Seed Flare halves their Special Defense, they will usually be able to destroy Shaymin-S with Dragon Pulse and Ice Beam, respectively, after Shaymin-S takes Stealth Rock damage. Because of these defensive threats, mixed Rayquaza makes a great partner for Shaymin-S. Mixed Rayquaza is able to lure in Lugia, only to 2HKO it with Draco Meteor after Lugia takes damage from Stealth Rock. Mixed Rayquaza will also destroy Skarmory with Fire Blast and smash through Blissey with Outrage. A support Groudon will also work well with Shaymin-S, as it can lure in Lugia and Latias, and cripple them with Toxic. Groudon’s massive Attack stat will be able to crush Blissey with Earthquake. Groudon even has the option of using Overheat, which will OHKO Skarmory if it dares switch in on Groudon. Giratina-O can lure in Latias, and if Giratina-O uses Calm Mind as Latias switches in, Giratina-O can sacrifice its well being to destroy Latias. With Thunder, Dragon Pulse, and Substitute, Calm Mind Giratina-O can set up on Blissey, as long as Blissey lacks Calm Mind, and easily sweep through Skarmory and Lugia. A mixed Dialga will easily OHKO Skarmory with either Fire Blast or Thunder, OHKO Latias with Outrage, 2HKO Blissey with Outrage, and 2HKO Lugia with Thunder. A Mewtwo with Taunt and Calm Mind can easily use Skarmory and Lugia as set up time, while Darkrai can put any of the four defensive Pokémon to sleep, and threaten to crush them all with its Nasty Plot-boosted Dark Pulses and Focus Blasts. A Wobbuffet with Tickle can spell doom for both Blissey and Lugia when paired with a Pursuit user (preferably Scizor or Tyranitar). Both Scizor and Tyranitar are capable of destroying Latias with Pursuit as well. Tyranitar also has the option of using Taunt and Dragon Dance to easily set up on Blissey, Lugia, and Skarmory.

One of Shaymin-S’s biggest problems in Ubers is dealing with powerful Pokémon who can not only switch into Shaymin-S’s STAB attacks, but can also attack Shaymin-S before it can even move. Scizor is one of Shaymin-S's biggest fears, as not only can it switch into Seed Flare, thanks to its 4x resistance to Grass-type moves, but it can also 2HKO Shaymin-S with Bullet Punch, or even hit Shaymin-S with Pursuit if it attempts to escape. An opposing Shaymin-S can cause problems for your own Shaymin-S if it switches into Seed Flare, as then the enemy Shaymin-S has the chance to destroy your own Shaymin-S with Air Slash. This is especially problematic if your Shaymin-S has Hidden Power Fire, as this forces Shaymin-S to lower its Speed IV to 30, meaning that your Shaymin-S will always lose Speed ties to opposing Shaymin-S (unless they too have Hidden Power Fire). Choice Scarf Dialga can take even Choice Specs Shaymin-S's Seed Flares and Air Slashes thanks to its 4x resistance to Grass-type attacks and resistance to Flying-type attacks, and OHKO Shaymin-S with either Draco Meteor or Fire Blast. In a similar manner, Heatran can switch into both Seed Flare and Air Slash with ease, and threaten to OHKO Shaymin-S with Fire Blast. Although they will take a heavy amount of damage from Choice Specs Seed Flares, both Choice Scarf Jirachi and Choice Scarf Metagross can outspeed and OHKO Shaymin-S with Ice Punch. Although fairly uncommon, a Choice Scarf Ho-Oh can switch into Seed Flare with no problems, and OHKO Shaymin-S with Sacred Fire. As mentioned before, Scizor is best dealt with by luring it in with Fire Blast Mewtwo (who can also outrun and destroy enemy non-Choice Scarf Shaymin-S with Ice Beam), Dialga and Palkia who are bluffing Choice Scarfs, and Hidden Power Fire Gengar (in the sunlight).

Because many of the problems Shaymin-S has are with Choice Scarfed Pokémon who have resistances to Seed Flare, Wobbuffet is a good partner for Shaymin-S because can revenge kill nearly all of the Choice Scarfed Pokémon. Kyogre can easily take Scizor's Bullet Punches, Ho-Oh's Sacred Fires, Jirachi's and Metagross's Ice Punches, and Dialga and Heatran's Fire Blasts, and in return either use the time to set up with Calm Mind or smash all of them, except Dialga, with its powerful Surfs. A specially defensive Groudon can take Dialga's Draco Meteor, and do a severe amount of damage with Earthquake. Groudon can also 2HKO Scizor with Earthquake, and destroy both Jirachi and Metagross with Earthquake. Groudon can also lure in opposing Shaymin-S, who think that they are safe by switching into Earthquake, only to OHKO them with Fire Punch or Overheat as they switch in. If the weather is sunny, a Heatran of your own can come in on Scizor, Shaymin-S, Choice Scarf Dialga, Choice Scarf Metagross, Choice Scarf Jirachi, or Choice Scarf Heatran, and threaten to roast all of them, except Heatran , with Fire Blast. A Heatran of your own can simply OHKO opposing Heatran with Earth Power. Blissey is able to take any special attack that Dialga or Heatran attempt to KO Shaymin-S with, thanks to her massive HP and Special Defense stats. A Haban Berry Garchomp can lure Choice Scarf Dialga in if it uses Swords Dance, and then survive Dialga's Draco Meteor, while Garchomp's boosted Earthquake will easily OHKO Dialga. A Yache Berry Garchomp can destroy Choice Scarf Jirachi, Choice Scarf Metagross, and Choice Scarf Heatran as well. Bulk Up Dialga can use Choice Scarf Jirachi, Choice Scarf Metagross, or Scizor (as long as it doesn't have Superpower) as time to set up. If Giratina-O has Aura Sphere and Calm Mind, it is capable of luring in Choice Scarf Dialga, and will survive Dialga's Draco Meteors if it uses Calm Mind as Dialga switches in. Giratina-O will then OHKO Dialga most of the time with a boosted Aura Sphere. Giratina-O will also be able to set up on Heatran's and Dialga's Fire Blasts with ease.

While many Pokémon are unable to take too many Seed Flares, there are several Pokémon who are very capable of revenge killing Shaymin-S in Ubers. Mewtwo's 130 base Speed stat allows it to outspeed Shaymin-S without the aid of a Choice Scarf, which Mewtwo will take advantage of by grabbing a quick OHKO on Shaymin-S with Ice Beam. Mewtwo is sometimes seen with a Choice Scarf, meaning that even Choice Scarf Shaymin-S is not always safe. Although Deoxys-A's paper thin defenses mean that it cannot handle Choice Scarf Shaymin-S or Substitute + Leech Seed Shaymin-S, any other Shaymin-S variant is outsped and destroyed by Deoxys-A's powerful Ice Beam (it can also finish off weakened versions of any set with ExtremeSpeed). Choice Scarf Palkia will be able to outspeed and OHKO Shaymin-S with either Draco Meteor or Fire Blast. A Choice Scarf Garchomp will deal around 72% - 85% to Shaymin-S with Outrage, meaning that it will have a 79% chance of OHKOing Shaymin-S after it takes damage from Stealth Rock. Choice Scarf Garchomp will always OHKO Shaymin-S with Stone Edge after it takes Stealth Rock damage as well. Timid Choice Scarf Darkrai will outspeed even Modest Choice Scarf Shaymin-S, allowing it to OHKO Shaymin-S with Ice Beam before being destroyed by Seed Flare. Choice Scarf Kyogre is able to outspeed Shaymin-S, and OHKO it with Ice Beam. Kyogre's massive Special Defense will allow it to switch into most of Shaymin-S's attacks, with the exception of Seed Flare.

As can be seen, most of these Pokémon require either Ice Beam or STAB Dragon-type attacks to revenge kill Shaymin-S, meaning that Scizor makes a superb partner. Scizor can easily switch into Deoxys-A's Ice Beams, and simply destroy it with Pursuit. Mewtwo who lack a Fire-type or Choice Scarf Kyogre. A Kyogre of your own will not only beat Mewtwo who do not have Thunder or Selfdestruct, but will also be able to easily set up Calm Mind on Choice Scarf Darkrai and Choice Scarf Kyogre attack will also be handled by Scizor, who can either Pursuit it or scout the next switch-in with U-turn. Scizor should generally U-turn against Choice Scarf Palkia, Choice Scarf Garchomp, Choice Scarf Darkrai, and Choice Scarf Kyogre (unless Scizor has Roost and is at low health), as the opponent is likely to switch out if they are locked into a Dragon- or Ice-type attack. A specially defensive Choice Band Tyranitar will be able survive even Aura Spheres from Mewtwo, while Tyranitar will destroy Mewtwo with Crunch or Pursuit. Tyranitar will also take little damage from any Ice Beams coming from Choice Scarf Darkrai , if they are locked into Ice Beam. Kyogre is also a great sleep absorber with Sleep Talk, which can be helpful in case Darkrai attempts to put Shaymin-S to sleep with Dark Void. Wobbuffet is able to revenge kill all of the Choice Scarf users mentioned, with the exception of Choice Scarf Darkrai.

Shaymin-S is weak to Poison-, Rock-, Flying-, Ice- (which is a 4x weakness), and Fire-type attacks. Poison-type attacks are almost never seen in Ubers, while the only Pokémon who will commonly use a Flying-type attack in Ubers is Shaymin-S, thus the best defensive partners for Shaymin-S will usually resist Fire-, Rock-, and/or Ice-type attacks. Heatran is a fantastic defensive partner for Shaymin-S, as it resists all of Shaymin-S's weaknesses (in particular, Heatran has a 4x resistance to Ice-type moves), while Shaymin-S resists both Water- and Fighting-type attacks, and is immune to Ground-type attacks. The defensive duo of Shaymin-S and Heatran also resists almost every attack in the game, with the only two types not being resisted being Electric- and Rock-types. Dialga is another excellent defensive partner for Shaymin-S. Dialga resists Rock-type and Flying-type attacks for Shaymin-S, while Shaymin-S is immune to Ground-type attacks and resists Fighting-type attacks. Kyogre resists the many Ice- and Fire-type attacks aimed at Shaymin-S, while Shaymin-S covers Kyogre's Grass-type weakness with a 4x resistance to it. Although both Groudon and Garchomp share an Ice-type weakness with Shaymin-S, both resist Rock-type attacks. Garchomp in particular also resists Fire-type attacks, while Shaymin-S will help Groudon out with its 4x resistance to Grass-type attacks. Jirachi and Metagross cover Shaymin-S's weaknesses to Ice-, Rock-, and Flying-type attacks, while Shaymin-S is immune to their crippling Ground-type weakness. Although its defenses are frail, Lucario can take any Rock-type attacks aimed at Shaymin-S, thanks to its 4x resistance to them, while Shaymin-S can take any Ground-type attacks that are aimed at Lucario.

    Altre Opzioni

Shaymin-S has access to Swords Dance, which is a viable option in Ubers. After one Swords Dance, a Jolly Shaymin-S with Life Orb will OHKO Darkrai, Kyogre (even if it has max Defense and max HP), and most Adamant Groudon with Seed Bomb. Palkia will also always be OHKOed by a +2 Seed Bomb boosted by Life Orb after it takes Stealth Rock damage. A +2 Seed Bomb will do a massive 84% - 99% to Garchomp, who will be OHKOed if your team has both Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes on the opponent’s side. Blissey will also always be OHKOed by a +2 Seed Bomb after taking Stealth Rock damage. A +2 Return boosted by Life Orb will always OHKO both Rayquaza and opposing Shaymin-S after they both take damage from Stealth Rock. A +2 Return will have a 53% chance of OHKOing 112 HP Latias after Stealth Rock. If Swords Dance Shaymin-S is Adamant, Latias will always be OHKOed by a +2 Return after Stealth Rock, while Garchomp will have a 92% chance of being OHKOed by a +2 Seed Bomb after Stealth Rock. Swords Dance Shaymin-S has one very serious flaw though. Due to Shaymin-S’s poor physical movepool, it is completely walled by Lugia, Giratina, Giratina-O, and almost any Steel-type Pokémon.

Hidden Power Rock is a viable move on Shaymin-S. Hidden Power Rock’s main selling point is that it allows Shaymin-S to OHKO Ho-Oh after it switches into Stealth Rock, and will also 2HKO both Rayquaza and Shaymin-S after they switch into Stealth Rock. Otherwise, Hidden Power Rock is vastly outclassed by Hidden Power Fire and Hidden Power Ice. Shaymin-S is able to learn Quick Attack. While having a priority move on Shaymin-S may seem appealing at first, Quick Attack is such a weak move from Shaymin-S that a Jolly Shaymin-S with max Attack requires Swords Dance to secure an OHKO against even Deoxys-A after Stealth Rock! Endeavor can arguably be paired with Quick Attack and Focus Sash, but it will often make a poor lead, and the commonness of Stealth Rock will ruin the tactic outside of a lead role. Ominous Wind, although a poor move, has a 20% chance of raising all of Shaymin-S’s stats by one stage due to Serene Grace. Finally, Secret Power is a viable move on Shaymin-S for one reason - its ability to paralyze the opponent 60% of the time

A Yache Berry can be used to let Shaymin-S survive an Ice Beam from Blissey and Lugia. Yache Berry will not make a difference when facing powerful foes such as Kyogre and Mewtwo, though, as their Ice Beam plus Stealth Rock damage will OHKO Shaymin-S anyway. Occa Berry can allow Shaymin-S to survive Fire-type attacks in the rain. Both Petaya Berry and Salac Berry are viable options for an offensively oriented Substitute set. Finally, Wide Lens will allow Shaymin-S to have a more accurate Seed Flare and Air Slash.

Shaymin-S has a wide variety of support moves to choose from. Psych Up will allow Shaymin-S to steal the stat ups of its foes (the one Shaymin-S should specifically aim for is a Calm Mind Kyogre that has only Surf as its attack), allowing Shaymin-S to have the potential to sweep. Safeguard will protect Shaymin-S and its allies from status moves, which can be helpful against Toxic Spikes. Shaymin-S also has the ability to use Aromatherapy, but is generally a poor user of it, due to its average defenses and weakness to Stealth Rock. Worry Seed can be used on the Substitute + Leech Seed set to stop both Giratina and Dialga from using their main method of recovery, Rest (it doesn't seem like its worth losing coverage over this though). Toxic will cripple both Lugia and Latias if they attempt to switch into Shaymin-S. Synthesis is Shaymin-S’s only recovery move beyond Rest, and can be used to extend Life Orb Shaymin-S’s life span if used with Groudon’s eternal sunlight. Finally, Shaymin-S is arguably the best user of Healing Wish in the game, due to its 127 base Speed stat. Healing Wish can be used to restore a weakened sweeper, such as Darkrai, to full health, giving it another chance to sweep. This is potentially very deadly for your opponent, because its counter will most likely be weakened at that point.

    EVs

When using Shaymin-S, max Speed and max Special Attack EVs should almost always be used. When using Choice Scarf Shaymin-S, Modest should be used most of the time, because Shaymin-S will outspeed most Pokémon anyway. However, Choice Scarf Shaymin-S should be Timid if used as a lead, as this will let it outspeed Timid Choice Scarf Darkrai leads. The Substitute + Leech Seed set has the option of using 252 HP EVs to make its Substitutes unbreakable by Blissey’s Seismic Toss, but the power loss is often not worth it. All other sets should always use a Timid nature, with the exception of Choice Specs Shaymin-S, who can use a Modest nature to gain several KOs (most importantly, the chance to beat Blissey).

    Considerazioni

When choosing Shaymin-S for a team, it can be seen that Shaymin-S has some unfortunate flaws in the Uber tier. Shaymin-S is quite a frail Pokémon by Uber standards, being just a bit bulkier than Darkrai. To make this worse, Shaymin-S has a weakness to Stealth Rock, meaning that it will lose 25% of its health each time it switches in. With several common Pokémon , such as Dialga and Scizor, often forcing Shaymin-S to switch out, Shaymin-S's life span in Ubers is often short.

To make up for these flaws, Shaymin-S has some amazing qualities that most Ubers could only dream of having. Shaymin-S's STAB Seed Flares crush both Kyogre and Groudon, both of whom are among the most prominent Pokémon in the Uber metagame. Shaymin-S is among the fastest Pokémon in the Uber tier as well, being even faster than Darkrai. This impressive amount of Speed will also let Shaymin-S outrun a Rock Polish Groudon when holding a Choice Scarf, making Choice Scarf Shaymin-S one of the best answers to Rock Polish Groudon, due to its immunity to Earthquake, its high Speed, and its STAB Seed Flare. Most of all, Shaymin-S's most defining quality is what it is most notorious for: its effective use of Serene Grace. Luck already can significantly affect the outcome of the fast paced battles of Ubers, and Shaymin-S is very capable of abusing this, thanks to its access to Seed Flare and Air Slash. Both the Special Defense drops of Seed Flare and the flinches that Air Slash can cause are fairly common, thanks to Shaymin-S's Serene Grace, thus Shaymin-S's use of luck will often be able to turn the tables upon the opponent, even in the most dire situations. Overall, Shaymin-S is an excellent choice for almost any offensive Uber team, because Shaymin-S will often make a significant impact in the battle, despite its short lifespan.

    Counters

Blissey is often the most reliable counter to Shaymin-S. Blissey's massive Special Defense and HP stats allow her to take Seed Flares with little problems, while Blissey can either cripple Shaymin-S with Thunder Wave, Toxic, or simply just OHKO Shaymin-S with Ice Beam after it takes damage from Stealth Rock. Be warned though, Blissey will lose to Shaymin-S sets that have Substitute and Leech Seed, and will have a chance of being 2HKOed by a Modest Choice Specs Seed Flare if Blissey's Special Defense is halved. A special defensive Skarmory can take Shaymin-S's Seed Flares, thanks to its 4x resistance to Grass-type attacks, and also resists Shaymin-S's Air Slashes. Skarmory can simply Whirlwind Shaymin-S away (causing it to take more damage from Stealth Rock), or OHKO Shaymin-S with Brave Bird after Shaymin-S has taken damage from Stealth Rock. Skarmory must be careful though, because Shaymin-S will do a severe amount of damage to Skarmory if it has Hidden Power Fire and the weather is sunny. Although Lugia and Latias are at risk of falling to Air Slash flinches after Seed Flare Special Defense drops, they both have the ability to take most of Shaymin-S's assaults when they are at near full health. In return, Lugia and Latias can OHKO Shaymin-S with Ice Beam and Dragon Pulse, respectively, after Shaymin-S takes damage from Stealth Rock. Lugia can also use Whirlwind to stop any of Shaymin-S's attempts at stalling with Leech Seed.

Although Stealth Rock is a huge problem for it, Choice Scarf Ho-Oh has no issues switching into any of Shaymin-S's attacks, and can threaten to OHKO it with Sacred Fire. Scizor is a particularly big problem for Shaymin-S who lack Hidden Power Fire. Scizor can easily switch into Seed Flare, thanks to its 4x resistance to Grass-type attacks, and threaten to 2HKO Shaymin-S with Bullet Punch. Choice Band Scizor can even use Pursuit to put Shaymin-S into the KO range of Stealth Rock on its next switch-in (provided that Shaymin-S has already taken Stealth Rock damage.) Scizor must be cautious though, as a Choice Specs boosted Air Slash will 2HKO it. Choice Scarf Dialga can use its 4x resistance to Seed Flare and resistance to Air Slash to easily switch into it, and threaten to OHKO Shaymin-S with either Draco Meteor or Fire Blast. In a similar manner, Choice Scarf Heatran can switch into Seed Flare and Air Slash, giving Heatran the chance to OHKO Shaymin-S with Fire Blast. Choice Scarf Jirachi and Choice Scarf Metagross also resist Shaymin-S's Seed Flares and Air Slashes, and can both threaten to OHKO Shaymin-S with Ice Punch. Dialga, Heatran, Metagross, and Jirachi must watch out for Earth Power, however, as all but Heatran are 2HKOed by Earth Power (Heatran is OHKOed by Earth Power). Otherwise, faster Pokémon, such as Mewtwo, Deoxys-A, Choice Scarf Garchomp, Choice Scarf Palkia, Choice Scarf Darkrai, and Choice Scarf Kyogre, will usually be able to revenge kill Shaymin-S with no problems. All of them must make sure that Shaymin-S is not carrying a Choice Scarf itself, though. Mewtwo in particular can outspeed Shaymin-S with a Choice Scarf of its own.
