Fake Out the first turn for a free hit. Now you can use two of Purugly's biggest assets: its high Speed and Hypnosis. Throw Returns at the sleeping foe or U-turn out when met with something you can't hurt. Shadow Claw is an alternative in the final slot to hit Ghosts. Choice Band goes some way to make up for Purugly's rather poor Attack stat, although even with the boost he's still not too threatening. Shadow Claw is the more reliable option for hitting Ghosts, but you can use Sucker Punch for a little extra power and it will also hit first if Purugly is facing something faster. Iron Tail is to hit Rock-types fairly hard. In the final slot you can choose Fake Out to get in a free hit, or U-turn get in a light hit while switching.

Charm can weaken an incoming physical attacker. Aerial Ace is only of use for Heracross and Breloom, who Purugly shouldn't be fighting really. Purugly can attempt a Fake Out + Last Resort set but this is more of a novelty option.
Opinioni
A fast sleep inducer is a useful asset to a team, but there are better options for this role than Purugly. His attacking power is low and his movepool is terrible—not a good combination. He has a little more Attack than Persian, but other than that, Purugly is totally outclassed by his feline counterpart.
Counters
Purugly can't do anything to the likes of Steelix, Aggron, and opposing Steels in general; except put them to sleep. Rock-types also fare quite well and only fear the occasional Choice Band Iron Tail. Relicanth in particular works well due to its neutrality to Iron Tail and high Defense. Weezing can take just about anything and burn Purugly with Will-O-Wisp.
